Most Valuable Warhol Paintings

Andy Warhol, one of the most intriguing and unique American artists of the 20th century, has produced some of the worlds most sought after paintings. In addition to iconic works like his famous "32 Campell's Soup Cans" and "Marilyn Diptych," there are many other works that have garnered a small fortune. Today, some of the most valuable Warhol paintings include both popular pop-culture icons and a haunting disaster.
Turquoise Marilyn
Marilyn Monroe has been the focal point of many Warhol pieces. One of the most popular, and by far the post valuable, is a work titled "Turquoise Marilyn." Sold in 2007 for an estimated $80 million, this piece is a combination of silkscreen and acrylic paints on a linen surface.
Green Car Crash
Part of Warhol's Death and Disaster Series, his painting "Green Car Crash (Green Burning Car I)" is one of the most expensive Warhol works sold to date. The painting was sold at auction in 2007 at a price of over $70 million. The painting is taken directly from a photograph of a grisly car crash that took place in Seattle in the early 1960s.
Eight Elvises
The most expensive painting by Warhol to have been publicly sold is called "Eight Elvises." Painted within just months of "Green Car Crash" and "Turquoise Marilyn," "Eight Elvises" sold for $100 million. The painting depicts an image of Elvis overlapping itself eight times in acrylic on canvas. It is considered to be one of the most expensive paintings ever sold.
With Andy Warhol's paintings considered to be among the world's most sought after works of art, the prices continue to skyrocket with each passing auction. To date, the three most valuable Warhol paintings have garnered a combined $250 million.
