The museum's roots
Following the death of Warhol and the subsequent creation of the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts, the idea to create The Warhol was developed in 1989. Though it did not reach completion until 1994, the efforts of the foundation in combination with The Carnegie Institute and The Dia Art Foundation were able to raise both the funding and necessary display pieces so that the museum was able able to hit the ground running. With ongoing donations through these three key groups as well as through private donors and art enthusiasts, the museum continues to thrive into the 21st century.
As society continues to struggle in search of ongoing support for the arts, The Warhol has proven to be a museum that has followed through in its dedication to the presentation of everything related to Andy Warhol. With a solid backing, a favorable location and a seemingly unending pool of incredible works of art, The Warhol is sure to continue as a favorite location of art buffs and pop culture mavens worldwide.
